Recently, I stumbled onto a cartoon named Dex Hamilton: Alien Entomologist. The cartoon is broadcast on the "qubo" network. It is rated Y-7.
The main plot is based on a futuristic setting in the year 3000 and "alien insects" that inhabit Earth (Not the main reason for me to write about the program) and how the main character, Dex Hamilton, helps to solve problems.
The reason why I like the show is the exposure to rich vocabulary on habitats. I also like the child engaging explanations on various environmental issues that affect the ecosystem.
As an educator I seldom promote the idea for children to sit in front of the television set unless I find something worthwhile. Now, I find Kratt Brothers in "Wild Kratts" to be factual and educational. Their imaginative way to approach animals in their natural habitat is fun and entertaining. The main characters are based on the real life Kratt brothers that shared a television show called "Zaboombafoo" with Zaboo a lemur. Both of the show have been my own children's favorite shows.
